Buenas noches (good evening) brothers and sisters in Christ. What a beautiful week here in Antigua, Guatemala. The weather has really been great with sunshine and very little rain which has made it much easier to get around the village of Santa Maria De Jesus. We have placed a total of 70 stoves, 12 concrete floors, given clothing, and anti-parasite meds to many children.
Many people have asked me “Why do I need to go on a mission trip to show God’s love?” After coming to Guatemala and spending 5 days in the village of Santa Maria De Jesus, I have finally found the reason. It is found in the gospel of Matthew chapter 22 versus 37 - 39 which reads:
“And he said unto him, thou shalt love the Lord they God with ALL thy heart and with ALL thy soul, and with ALL thy strength, and with ALL thy mind. This is the great and first commandment. And the second like unto it is this, thou shalt love thy neighbor as thy self.” The key word here is ALL.
This love was shown by each and every one of the missionaries that came with me to show God’s love to these families of Guatemala. The love was shown from each and every child during vacation bible school, shown by the smiles on their faces, the hugs each and every one of us was given each and every day.
I actually came to show these families the love of Jesus Christ, but I have come to find that I am the one who has been blessed and shown the love of Jesus Christ through the people in the village of Santa Maria De Jesus.
So to answer the question, why do I need to go on a mission trip to show God’s love?” I really don’t need to come to a Third-World Country to show people the love of God. It can be shown in my every day life, at work, school, on the street, any where I go as long as I, “Love the Lord my God with ALL my heart, All my soul, All my strength, and ALL my mind, and love my neighbor as myself. I choose to come to Guatemala because of how these families show me the love of my Jesus Christ.
My question to you is “Are you loving the Lord your God with ALL your heart, soul, strength, and mind and loving your neighbor as your self?
Dios te bendiga (May God Bless You),
